Ideal for RS485 Multi-Point Application
The Model 4152 is a high-speed ruggedized ST Fiber to RS485 / RS422 / RS232 (desktop unit) interface converter from Electro Standards Laboratories. Typical operating speeds are up to 1.5 Mbps for RS232 to fiber conversion and up to 5 Mbps for RS485/422 to fiber conversion. When operating in RS485/422 mode, the converter can be configured for 2-wire half duplex or 4-wire full duplex operation.
This Fiber to RS converter provides an industrial solution for applications requiring a single point-to-point or a multi-point communications link over short and long distances. Typical applications include PC to PC long distance communications, factory automation, multi-drop data collection devices, barcode readers, time clocks, scales, data entry terminals, ATMs and serial communications in harsh environments.
The Model 4152 Fiber to Multi-Point Converter is designed to operate from -40°C to 85°C and is a member of Electro Standards Laboratories rugged community media converter family. Model 4153 Fiber to RS Converter features ESD protection circuitry on all receivers and transmitters for both RS232 and RS485/422 interfaces. The unit's power input is protected from transients and features 3kVDC isolation to prevent system ground loops. It can be powered from a wide input range of 10VDC-36VDC, with models also available for other voltage ranges such as 4.5VDC-9VDC and 19VDC-72VDC.
Other features include user selectable fiber polarity, dual DB9 power connectors (board only) for convenience in bused power applications, TX, RX and Power indicator LEDs. The converter is available as a board only with front mounting threaded brackets for rack mounting in embedded applications. It is also available in a desk top package, Model 4152 for applications that require an enclosure. A DIN rail mounted version; Model 4152-DIN is also available. These Fiber Converters are ruggedized for commercial and military applications.

Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153 Isolated PC RS485/422/232 Communications to Fiber Serial interface / Network Application: Copper Interface to Glass ST Fiber Conversion
A PC is connected to the DB9 Copper interface of the Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153. The Glass ST Fiber port of the Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153 is connected to a Fiber Serial Interface / Network up to 5 Mbps.
Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153 Point-to-Point Isolated PC RS485/422/232 Communications Application: Copper Interface to Glass ST Fiber to Copper Interface Conversion
A PC is connected to the DB9 Copper interface of the Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153. The Glass ST Fiber port of the Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153 is connected to a second Model 4149/4149-DIN/4159/4159CC Glass ST Fiber port. The second Model 4149 DB9 port is connected to another computer via the DB9 port connector.
Model 4165/4165-DIN/4166 to Model 4152/4152-DIN/4153 Isolated PC USB to RS232/RS485 Communications Serial Interface / Network Application: Copper Interface to Glass ST Fiber to Copper Interface Conversion
A PC is connected to the USB Copper interface of the Model 4165. The Glass ST Fiber port of the Model 4165 is connected to the Model 4152 Glass ST Fiber port. The Model 4152 DB9 port is connected to a Serial Interface / Network up to 3 Mbps.
