Electro Standards Develops Ocean Wave Energy Harvesting Systems

May 26, 2011

Electro Standards Laboratories, Cranston, RI, announces the extension of its R&D Engineering Services into the area of Ocean Wave Energy Harvesting Systems for Sensor Buoys. The electronics developed by Electro Standards converts wave motion into electricity allowing the extended operation of sensor buoys. The benefits include enhanced functionality, higher performance and continuous operation.

The buoy sensor system generates and accumulates energy that can be used to indefinitely power remote buoys equipped with sensor arrays as well as electronics for processing and communications. This power source can be integrated with buoy systems to minimize the size of batteries, or to eliminate the need for batteries if supercapacitors are used.

Electro Standards Laboratories offers expertise in the development of advanced electric motor control algorithms. The company develops high performance servo control systems for AC machines including adaptive control for changing environments and parameter estimation for motor diagnostics and prognostics. Fault resilient controls for systems in demanding environments that must continue to operate in the event of sensor failures are also innovated by Electro Standards.
